Time to be Silly...

I just would like to say for those of you who have young children that taking time to read a Dr. Seuss book is always worth while. My mom had a Dr. Seuss collection for me when I was a kid and she used to read them to me, and I had such a love of books! I learned to read early and began reading everything for myself, Dr. Seuss and everything else I could get my hands on. I still have that collection of Dr. Seuss books - How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Horton Hears a Who, Horton Hatches the Egg, And to Think That I Saw It All on Mulberry Street, If I Ran the Circus, etc., etc.

My daughter wants me to read these to her all the time, and even my son likes them. I try to make them fun for her too. I do different voices for the characters and I just really get into the story with her. It's fun for her and it's fun for me. I can be tired and not really feel like getting into a book or reading out loud, but once I get started it's way fun!

To me, Dr. Seuss books get better with age. The way he wrote and rhymed, and all of the creativity; I love these books just as much now as I did as a kid.

I have to say that I don't have any of the primary books like Green Eggs and Ham, Hop on Pop, or One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish; only the larger books.

So, if you get a chance go check one of these out at the library and read one to your child. I think you'll both really get a kick out of it! And if you don't have small children, bring out the kid in yourself and take a break with a Dr. Seuss book. Read it out loud so you can really appreciate the rhyme and rhythm. It'll give you a little taste of childhool again.

I loved Dr.Seuss books when I was a kid! Especially Green Eggs and Ham! I read them to my kids when they were young...what fun!

Yes Michelle, I know you don't like Dr. Seuss, so I will be happy to come and have storytime with the kids! LOL! I meant what I said and I said what I meant, I love Dr. Seuss books 100 percent! :0)

Tina,
I love Green Eggs and Ham! My grandmother had the smaller Dr. Seuss books for me at her house. I loved them too! I volunteered to come and read to my son's class when he was in kindergarten and that was the book the teacher asked me to read - how fun for not only the kids, but for me too! Somehow the teachers actually fix green eggs and ham for the kids when they have Cat in the Hat week - yum, huh? Nothing like some green eggs for a kindergartener! LOL!

Mr Busy just adores Dr Suess. He came home with 'Hop on Pop' as a reader in Year 1 and he's been on a roll ever since. It was that book that helped him realise that he CAN read and it IS fun! We add to his collection every birthday and Christmas.

He's 8yo and has now realised that Mr Men books are also good for a giggle!

My daughter is starting kindergarten next month, and I think that I will start her off with Hop on Pop and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. She does have the Foot Book, and she has that one about memorized, so I'm not sure how much help that will be in her learning how to read! Thanks for mentioning the Mr. Men books, we only have "Mr. Fussy", and I think it is the funniest little book. I used to love them so much when I was in elementary school! We are going to the library tomorrow, and I'm going to look for some of those!

Hope the rest of your week is wonderful!
April :0)

Oh, and Tracy, my little boy is eight also - they're a handful aren't they. I could definitely name mine "Mr. Busy" also! LOL! :0)

I love Dr. Seuss! It's funny because when my children were little and I was reading his books to them, I would remember certain pictures from those books when I was a child. I mean I had forgotten about the books until I saw the picture and then it would come back to me.

I think he's great!

Me too! It is kind of like comfort food - comfort reading, I guess. When I sit down to read to my kids from these books that were mine when I was a kid, it is just really, really nostalgic for me! I love 'em!

I told you I was really happy about your house, but I forgot to tell you it looked pretty too! Looking forward to seeing the pics of the inside when you get moved in!

Oh yes April an 8yo boy is a handful. He's fast, he's loud, he's physical. But he is also good for a laugh. He makes us all shake our heads and giggle in amusement with the things he comes out with!
