My Third Project...

Well, it is 3:41 a.m. and I have finally finished my third purse. I made really good progress and got the body of the purse done at the first of the week in one night. But, I was doing some different things with this one, so it took a bit longer than I had expected.

******************************

I used a shell stitch for the body, which I had never done before. The handle was crocheted using two strands of yarn together, which I had also not done before in my purses.

******************************

I decided to do a bit of decoration on the stitching, so that took a little while, but wasn't very hard. The flap for the purse needed to be angled (at least I wanted it to be!), so I had to learn how to do that, and my mom also showed me how to do the button loops in a different way than I had done before, which I liked much better, and stronger.

******************************

I also got my first order for a purse yesterday. A lady asked me how much I was charging for the purses, and told me what color she would like, etc. Also, Misty suggested that I start a separate blog for my purses, so I will be putting that up shortly. I am deciding on a name and trying to get the details worked out before I put up the new site. This is SO exciting!!!

Terri, Thank you! There is a school about 20 minutes from here with these school colors - maybe I should try to sell some over there! :0)

Miriam, You are too kind. I am just thankful that I'm able to do it. I believe that this is a door that God has opened up for me for this time.

Michelle, You're bubbling over with talent too, whether you think so or not. Before last month I couldn't do this either. I just asked my mom to show me how, and I believe God has just blessed me in it. So, don't sell yourself short.

Tina, As always, you are very kind! I am SOOOO excited about hopefully setting up shop. I'm just not sure about how I need to go about doing it all yet???

Thanks to all of you, I really appreciate all of your encouragement!

Love,
April :0)

So I've been thinking about your little handbags. I have a question! How do you do the handle?

I love the shell stitch for the body. It looks very elegant and classy.

Hi Tracy! I'm glad you like the purse! It was the thorn in my side last week, but I was happy with how it turned out.

The handles that I have done on my first three purses were all single crochet flat handles, and once they are attached to the purse I go all the way down the handle stitching the sides together with a yarn needle to make it round. The reason I make them round is for extra strength and support. I didn't want the stitches to stretch and pull when any kind of weight is placed in the purse. I'm working on a University of Tennessee Knoxville purse right now, and I'm going to try a variation on the handle for it for a different look. Hopefully I'll be able to post it by sometime tomorrow.

Thanks again Tracy!
Love,
April :0)
